Jesus Commends The Church in Ephesus

Jesus commended the church in Ephesus in the book of Revelation for testing those who claimed to be apostles. They found false teachers among those they put to the test. This practice of holding teachers and leaders accountable isn’t to be thrown aside today.
John MacArthur says:
“The Ephesian church exercised spiritual discernment. It knew how to evaluate men who claimed spiritual leadership by their doctrine and behavior” (cf. 1 Thess. 5:20–21).
If you are not diligent in discernment of the men leading in your churches, you need to be. Get in the word so you can recognize when someone should be raising red flags. If you can’t recognize false teaching there’s no telling what bad doctrine you will believe.
The same goes for discerning pastors and teachers who have put themselves out there for public ministry. If they are public false teachers they deserve public scrutiny so that others following them who aren’t as discerning can be warned.
